David Ajala

David Ajala is a British actor, born on May 21, 1986, in Hackney, London, of Nigerian Yoruba origin. He trained at the Anna Scher Theatre and has built a prolific career across theatre, film, and television since 2006. On stage, Ajala has performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company in productions like A Midsummer Night's Dream and in the European premiere of One Night in Miami. His notable film roles include appearances in The Dark Knight (2008), Fast & Furious 6 (2013), the critically acclaimed Starred Up (2013), and the Wachowskis' Jupiter Ascending (2015).On television, Ajala is widely recognized for his main roles in major series. He played Manchester Black in the fourth season of Supergirl (2018–2019), Captain Roy Eris in the Syfy series Nightflyers (2018), and had a prominent role as Burton in Falling Water (2016–2018). His most globally recognized role is that of Cleveland "Book" Booker, a main cast member from seasons three through five of the Paramount+ series Star Trek: Discovery (2020–2024). His extensive TV credits also include roles in popular shows such as Doctor Who, Black Mirror, Law & Order: UK, and Black Box. Additionally, he provided the voice and motion capture for the character Sean 'Mac' McAlister in the video game Need for Speed Payback (2017). He is set to join the cast of Law & Order as a regular cast member starting partway through its 25th season.
