David Chiang Da-Wei
David Chiang Da-Wei (born Chiang Wei-nien on June 29, 1947, in Shanghai, China) is a highly respected Hong Kong actor, director, producer, and martial artist. Born into a family of movie stars, he began his acting career as a child at the age of four. In the late 1960s, while working as a stuntman and fight instructor at Shaw Brothers Studio, he was discovered by director Chang Cheh, who became his mentor and gave him the stage name David Chiang. He rose to international fame in the 1970s as a major martial arts superstar, often paired with actor Ti Lung to form the popular "Deadly Duo" in Chang Cheh's films, which were characterized by their intense action and themes of "blood brothers." Chiang is celebrated for portraying unique, anti-heroic martial arts characters with a youthful and intense screen presence.His accolades include winning the Best Actor award at the Asia-Pacific Film Festival twice, first in 1970 for Vengeance! and again in 1973 for Blood Brothers. Throughout his prolific career, he has appeared in over 130 films and 30 television series, with notable titles like The New One-armed Swordsman (1971) and his directorial debut The Legend of the Owl (1981). He has three siblings who are also prominent figures in the film industry: his full brother Paul Chun and his half-brother Derek Yee, and he is the father of actor John Chiang, Jr. David Chiang continues to act in both film and television, with recent roles including a supporting appearance as "Mr. Shrimp" in the 2024 film Rob N Roll, and in 2024, he won the Best Supporting Actor award at the 42nd Hong Kong Film Awards for his role in In Broad Daylight.
