David Mann
David Mann (born August 7, 1966, in Fort Worth, Texas) is a celebrated American actor, comedian, and gospel singer best known for his iconic portrayal of Leroy “Mr. Brown” in Tyler Perry’s stage plays and films. A long-time collaborator of Tyler Perry since the early 2000s, Mann first brought Mr. Brown to life in productions such as I Can Do Bad All by Myself, Madea’s Class Reunion, and Meet the Browns, later reprising the role on screen in Madea Goes to Jail, Madea’s Big Happy Family, Meet the Browns, and A Madea Homecoming, as well as the recent Madea’s Destination Wedding. Before his rise in the “Madea Universe,” he sang in Kirk Franklin’s gospel ensemble “The Family” alongside his wife, Tamela Mann, whom he married in 1988 . Their creative partnership extends beyond acting—they co-founded Tillymann Entertainment, released a joint gospel album and book titled Us Against the World in 2018, and starred together in BET series like Mann & Wife and It’s a Mann’s World. An NAACP Image Award winner for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series (Meet the Browns, 2011), Mann has also delved into TV directing and producing, ventured into voice work (The VeggieTales Show), and hosts live comedy tours and family-focused digital series. With a career spanning over three decades, David Mann remains a vibrant presence in faith-based entertainment and family comedy, cherished for his warmth, humor, and soulful stage presence.
