David Michôd

David Michôd (born November 30, 1972, in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia) is an acclaimed Australian film director, screenwriter, producer, and actor. He received his education at Sydney Grammar School before studying arts at the University of Melbourne. Prior to his filmmaking career, Michôd worked for the Victorian Department of Education and was the editor of Inside Film magazine from 2003 to 2006. He is a prominent member of the Australian filmmaking collective Blue-Tongue Films and is married to director/writer Mirrah Foulkes. Michôd made a significant international breakthrough with his feature directorial debut, the critically acclaimed crime drama Animal Kingdom (2010), which he wrote and directed, and which earned the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. His subsequent directorial efforts include the dystopian Western The Rover (2014) starring Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson, the satirical war film War Machine (2017) starring Brad Pitt, the historical drama The King (2019) co-written with Joel Edgerton, and the 2025 biographical sports drama Christy, which he co-wrote with his partner Mirrah Foulkes. In addition to features, Michôd has directed for television on series like Enlightened and Flesh and Bone, and was a writer and executive producer on the Hulu miniseries Catch-22.
