David P. Smith
David P. Smith is a prolific American animator, director, writer, and voice actor who has been a mainstay in the animation industry since the early 1990s. Born in 1968, he began his career at Hanna-Barbera and Cartoon Network, where he served as a storyboard artist for iconic series such as Dexter's Laboratory and The Powerpuff Girls. In the early 2000s, Smith transitioned to DreamWorks Animation, beginning with work on Shrek 2 (2004) as a story artist and voice actor. Over the next decade, he contributed to major franchises including Madagascar and Shark Tale, often providing additional dialogue and lending his voice to memorable minor characters like Crazy Joe in Shark Tale and Bobby the Dik-Dik in Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa. Smith’s career reached a major milestone when he served as the executive producer for the Netflix series The Mr. Peabody & Sherman Show (2015–2017), a role that earned him a Daytime Emmy Award nomination. He also received an Annie Award nomination for his writing on a 2014 Powerpuff Girls special. In 2020, he made his feature film directorial debut as the co-director of Trolls World Tour, working alongside Walt Dohrn. Beyond his directorial work, he has continued to support major productions through story artistry and voice work, recently appearing as a voice actor in The Boss Baby: Family Business (2021).
