David Soren
David Soren is a prominent Canadian animator, director, and writer who spent over two decades as a creative cornerstone at DreamWorks Animation. Born in Toronto in 1973, he developed an early passion for drawing and eventually graduated from the prestigious animation program at Sheridan College. His student short film, Mr. Lucky, gained significant industry attention and was even accepted into competition for a 1997 Academy Award. Following this success, Soren was recruited by DreamWorks, where he cut his teeth as a storyboard and story artist on genre-defining hits like Chicken Run (2000), Shrek (2001), and Over the Hedge (2006). He eventually rose to become the Head of Story for the 2004 film Shark Tale, a role that solidified his reputation for blending sharp comedic timing with large-scale animated storytelling. Soren made his transition into directing with several successful television specials for the Madagascar franchise, including Merry Madagascar (2009) and Madly Madagascar (2013). His feature film directorial debut arrived in 2013 with Turbo, a project born from his own original concept about a snail with dreams of winning the Indy 500. He followed this in 2017 by directing Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, which was praised for its creative use of mixed media and faithful adaptation of Dav Pilkey's books. In addition to his behind-the-camera work, Soren is a frequent voice actor within the studio; most notably, he voices the muscle-bound, diaper-wearing baby Jimbo in both The Boss Baby (2017) and its 2021 sequel, The Boss Baby: Family Business. In recent years, Soren has expanded his horizons beyond DreamWorks, joining Paramount Animation to direct and co-write the 2023 musical Under the Boardwalk.
