Diane Guerrero
Diane Guerrero is a Colombian-American actress, author, and advocate, renowned for her roles in Orange Is the New Black, Jane the Virgin, and Doom Patrol. Born in Passaic, New Jersey, and raised in Boston, Guerrero's life took a pivotal turn at age 14 when her undocumented parents and older brother were deported to Colombia. As the only member of her immediate family with U.S. citizenship, she remained behind, navigating the challenges of adolescence without her family. Her personal experience with family separation deeply informs her advocacy work. Guerrero has become a vocal proponent for immigration reform, serving as an ambassador for the Immigration Legal Resource Center and a board member for Mi Familia Vota. In 2015, she was appointed a Presidential Ambassador for Citizenship and Naturalization by President Obama. In addition to her acting career, Guerrero authored the memoir In the Country We Love: My Family Divided, which chronicles her family's deportation and her subsequent journey. She also adapted the memoir for younger readers, titled My Family Divided. Her work continues to inspire and advocate for immigrant communities, highlighting the importance of family unity and the need for compassionate immigration policies.
