Diane Lane is an American actress born on January 22, 1965, in New York City, New York. She began her professional career on the stage at the age of six at the La MaMa Experimental Theater Club and made her feature film debut at 13 opposite Sir Laurence Olivier in A Little Romance (1979), a role that earned her immediate notice, including a feature on the cover of Time magazine. Lane transitioned successfully into adult roles after starring in Francis Ford Coppola's 1983 films, The Outsiders and Rumble Fish, alongside a cast of future stars.Despite a brief period of commercial setbacks, her career was rejuvenated with the acclaimed 1989 television miniseries Lonesome Dove, for which she earned a Primetime Emmy Award nomination. The 1990s saw her appear in films like Chaplin (1992) and Jack (1996). Lane's career reached a new peak with the 2002 dramatic thriller Unfaithful, where her performance as an adulterous wife garnered her nominations for the Academy Award for Best Actress, the Golden Globe Award, and the Screen Actors Guild Award. She continued her success with the popular romantic comedy-drama Under the Tuscan Sun (2003), earning her another Golden Globe nomination.In her later career, Lane is well-known for playing Martha Kent, the adoptive mother of Superman, in the DC Extended Universe films, including Man of Steel (2013) and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016). More recently, she starred alongside Kevin Costner in the thriller Let Him Go (2020) and appeared in the miniseries Feud: Capote vs. The Swans (2024) and A Man in Full (2024). Lane has been married twice, first to actor Christopher Lambert (1988–1994) with whom she has a daughter, and later to actor Josh Brolin (2004–2013).
