Dolly de Leon is a highly acclaimed Filipino actress known for her extensive work in independent films and theater. Born on April 12, 1969, in Manila, Philippines, she trained in theater arts at the University of the Philippines Diliman and has appeared in over 30 stage productions, including classic plays by Shakespeare and Samuel Beckett. For decades, de Leon worked primarily in the Filipino entertainment industry, taking on small roles in films and TV shows to support herself and her four children as a single mother. Her career began to gain significant momentum with her FAMAS Award-winning performance in the 2019 crime drama Verdict.She achieved international recognition and critical acclaim for her performance as Abigail, a resourceful toilet cleaner on a luxury yacht, in Ruben Östlund's 2022 satirical black comedy film, Triangle of Sadness. For this role, she made history as the first Filipino actress to be nominated for a Golden Globe Award and a BAFTA Award, in addition to winning a Guldbagge Award and a Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award for Best Supporting Performance. Following this breakthrough role, she has taken on more prominent roles in international productions, including the 2024 films Between the Temples and Ghostlight, and the upcoming second season of the series Nine Perfect Strangers.
