Dwayne Johnson
Dwayne Douglas Johnson, born May 2, 1972, in Hayward, California, is a global icon whose career spans professional football, legendary status in wrestling, and a reign as one of Hollywood’s highest-grossing actors. The son of professional wrestler Rocky Johnson and grandson of Peter Maivia, Dwayne moved frequently as a child—living in 13 U.S. states and briefly in New Zealand—before settling in Pennsylvania, where he turned a troubled youth marked by multiple arrests into an athletic success at Freedom High School. He earned a full scholarship to the University of Miami, where he played as a defensive tackle and won a national championship in 1991, but injuries and the presence of future NFL star Warren Sapp eventually sidelined his professional football dreams. After a brief stint in the Canadian Football League (CFL) left him with just "seven bucks" in his pocket, Johnson pivoted to the family business of wrestling in 1996. Debuting in the WWF as Rocky Maivia, he initially struggled as a "good guy" character but found superstardom after reinventing himself as the charismatic, trash-talking heel "The Rock." He went on to become a 10-time world champion and a cornerstone of the "Attitude Era," captivating audiences with his signature catchphrases and legendary feuds with stars like Stone Cold Steve Austin and John Cena. Johnson’s transition to Hollywood began with a record-breaking debut in The Scorpion King (2002), which earned him the highest salary for a first-time leading man. Over the next two decades, he became a box-office powerhouse, revitalizing franchises like Fast & Furious and starring in massive hits such as Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017), Moana (2016), and Black Adam (2022). Beyond acting, he is a prolific entrepreneur, co-founding Seven Bucks Productions with his business partner and ex-wife, Dany Garcia, and launching successful brands like Teremana Tequila, ZOA Energy, and the Project Rock line with Under Armour. A dedicated philanthropist, he founded the Dwayne Johnson Rock Foundation to support at-risk and terminally ill children and has donated millions to disaster relief and education. In 2024, he returned to his roots by joining the board of TKO Group Holdings (the parent company of WWE and UFC) and re-entered the wrestling ring as "The Final Boss." As of late 2025, he continues to push creative boundaries, starring in the gritty MMA biopic The Smashing Machine and a live-action remake of Moana. He is married to Lauren Hashian, with whom he has two daughters, Jasmine and Tiana, in addition to his eldest daughter, Simone, from his first marriage.
