Edward Drake

Edward John Drake is an Australian screenwriter and film director based in Los Angeles, known for his work in the action and thriller genres. Born on December 26, 1990, in Melbourne, Australia, he studied Law and Journalism at La Trobe University and The University of Melbourne. Despite being rejected from film programs, Drake's passion for filmmaking led him to direct a short film that caught the attention of a producer at Anonymous Content. This connection propelled him to Los Angeles with only $350 to his name, where he began as an intern and quickly became an assistant to Academy Award-winning producer Michael Sugar and director Mark Romanek . Drake's early career included directing music videos for artists such as Skrillex, Diplo, and The Fratellis. He transitioned into feature films with credits including Cosmic Sin, Apex, Breach, Gasoline Alley, and American Siege. He is perhaps best known for his work on the Detective Knight trilogy (Rogue, Redemption, and Independence), starring Bruce Willis . In addition to his narrative work, Drake has directed commercials for brands like Nike, British Airways, and Samsung, and his projects have been featured in publications such as Variety, Rolling Stone, and The Hollywood Reporter . He won the Austin Film Festival’s 2020 Screenwriting Award (Dramatic) for his screenplay The Young Woman, a true-crime thriller set in the Australian outback.
