Élodie Yung is a French actress known for her roles in both French and American film and television. She was born in Paris on February 22, 1981, to a Cambodian father and a French mother. Growing up in Seine-Saint-Denis, she began practicing karate at the age of nine and holds a black belt in the martial art. While she initially studied law at the University of Paris with the intention of becoming a judge, she ultimately decided to pursue her passion for acting, training at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.Yung began her career in French television, appearing in series such as La vie devant nous and Les Bleus. Her first major film role was in the 2004 French film Les fils du vent. She made her Hollywood debut in David Fincher's 2011 film The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo as Miriam Wu. She is widely recognized for her role as the ninja Jinx in G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013) and as the goddess Hathor in the fantasy film Gods of Egypt (2016).Yung's most notable and career-defining role to date is Elektra Natchios, a complex and dangerous assassin in the Marvel Netflix series Daredevil and The Defenders. More recently, she has starred as the lead in the Fox crime drama series The Cleaning Lady. She has a daughter with actor Jonathan Howard.
