Emily Mortimer
Emily Mortimer is a British actress and filmmaker, born on October 6, 1971, in Hammersmith, London. She is the daughter of dramatist and barrister Sir John Mortimer. Mortimer studied Russian at Lincoln College, Oxford, and began her acting career in the mid-1990s, appearing in various television and film roles. She gained recognition for her performances in films such as Match Point (2005), Shutter Island (2010), and Mary Poppins Returns (2018). In addition to her acting career, Mortimer co-created and co-wrote the television series Doll & Em (2014–2015) and directed the miniseries The Pursuit of Love (2021), for which she received a British Academy Television Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. In 2024, Mortimer joined the cast of Paddington in Peru (2025), the third installment of the beloved Paddington film series, taking over the role of Mary Brown from Sally Hawkins. Her portrayal has been praised for capturing the warmth and emotional depth of the character, maintaining the familial charm that defines the franchise. Mortimer is married to actor Alessandro Nivola, and they have two children. The family resides in Brooklyn, New York.
