Ewan McGregor

Ewan Gordon McGregor (born March 31, 1971) is a celebrated Scottish actor and director whose career spans gritty independent dramas, massive sci-fi blockbusters, and vibrant musicals. Raised in Crieff, Scotland, McGregor left school at 16 to pursue acting, eventually studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He shot to international stardom in 1996 as the heroin-addicted Mark Renton in Danny Boyle’s Trainspotting, a role that defined a generation of British cinema. He further cemented his place in pop culture history by portraying the younger Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequel trilogy (1999–2005) and the 2022 Disney+ limited series Obi-Wan Kenobi. McGregor is also known for his musical prowess, notably starring as the poet Christian in Moulin Rouge! (2001) and voicing the charismatic candelabra Lumière in the 2017 live-action Beauty and the Beast. Throughout his career, McGregor has balanced commercial success with critically acclaimed performances in films like Big Fish, Black Hawk Down, and The Ghost Writer. He has won a Golden Globe Award for his dual role in the third season of Fargo (2017) and a Primetime Emmy Award for his portrayal of the fashion designer Halston in the 2021 miniseries Halston. Beyond acting, he is an avid motorcyclist, famously documenting his global travels in the series Long Way Round and its sequels. In his personal life, McGregor was married to production designer Eve Mavrakis for 22 years, with whom he has four daughters. In 2022, he married his Fargo co-star Mary Elizabeth Winstead; the couple has one son, Laurie.
