G. V. Prakash Kumar

G. V. Prakash Kumar (born June 13, 1987) is a multifaceted Indian music composer, actor, and playback singer who has become a prominent figure in Tamil cinema over a career spanning two decades. Born into a musical lineage in Chennai, he is the son of playback singer A. R. Reihana and the nephew of Academy Award-winning composer A. R. Rahman. He made his earliest appearance in the industry as a child vocalist in the song "Chikku Bukku Rayile" from Gentleman (1993). After working as a keyboard programmer and singer for composers like Rahman and Harris Jayaraj, he made his debut as a film composer at the age of 19 with the critically acclaimed Veyil (2006). Since then, he has delivered iconic soundtracks for films such as Aayirathil Oruvan, Aadukalam, Theri, and Asuran. In 2015, he transitioned into acting with the horror-comedy Darling and has since balanced a prolific career in both music and acting, recently reaching the milestone of his 100th film as a composer with the 2026 film Parasakthi. His contributions have been recognized with numerous accolades, most notably two National Film Awards: one for Best Background Score for Soorarai Pottru (2020) and another for Best Music Direction (Songs) for Vaathi (2023). Beyond music, he has starred as a lead actor in over a dozen films, including Bachelor, Captain Miller, and the upcoming Kingston. In his personal life, he was married to his schoolmate and frequent musical collaborator, singer Saindhavi, in 2013; the couple has a daughter named Anvi. However, after 11 years of marriage, they announced their separation in 2024 and were granted a divorce in September 2025. Known for his versatility, G. V. Prakash continues to be one of the busiest artists in Kollywood, with high-profile 2025/2026 projects including Ajith Kumar's Good Bad Ugly and Dhanush's Idli Kadai.
