Gabrielle Mary Antonia Hoffmann, born January 8, 1982, is an American actress who rose to fame as a child star. Raised by her mother at the famed Chelsea Hotel in New York City, she began acting in commercials at age four to help with family finances, and made her film debut at age six in Field of Dreams (1989). She followed this with notable roles in films like Uncle Buck (1989), This Is My Life (1992), Sleepless in Seattle (1993), The Man Without a Face (1993), and the seminal coming-of-age movie Now and Then (1995).After graduating from high school in 1999, she took a break from screen acting to pursue a degree in literature and writing at Bard College, graduating in 2004. During her late 20s, she returned to acting, primarily in New York theater, before experiencing a career resurgence in independent films and television. Her later career is marked by acclaimed roles, including Ali Pfefferman in the Amazon series Transparent and a recurring role as Caroline Sackler on the HBO series Girls, both of which earned her Primetime Emmy Award nominations. She has also appeared in contemporary films such as Obvious Child (2014), Wild (2014), and C'mon C'mon (2021), and the HBO series Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty.
