She is the daughter of a Neapolitan father and an African-American mother, who is a professional dancer. At the age of 10, her family relocated to the Bronx, New York, where she was immersed in the performing arts from a young age. Influenced by her mother's career, Scodellaro pursued studies in singing, acting, and dancing. She later attended Manhattanville College, where she continued to hone her craft . Scodellaro's professional journey began in the early 2010s with roles in Italian television series such as Cugino & cugino and the web series Stuck – The Chronicles of David Rea.
