Gaurav Gera
Born on September 23, 1973, in Gurugram, Gaurav Gera is a highly versatile Indian actor, comedian, and digital creator who has successfully navigated television, cinema, and social media for over two decades. After studying fashion design, Gera pivoted to acting and made his television debut in 2001 with Life Nahin Hai Laddoo, but he became a household name through his iconic portrayal of the lovable, bespectacled Nandu in the hit series Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin (2003–2006). Throughout the 2000s and 2010s, he established himself as a master of character acting and comedy, starring in shows like The Great Indian Comedy Show and Mrs. Pammi Pyarelal, and appearing in films such as Dasvidaniya (2008) and Neal 'n' Nikki (2005). In the mid-2010s, he reinvented himself for the digital age, achieving viral global fame with his "Shopkeeper and Chutki" sketches, where his "Chutki" persona became a cultural phenomenon on Snapchat and Instagram. Gera’s career reached a significant turning point in December 2025 with his role in Aditya Dhar’s spy thriller Dhurandhar. In a dramatic departure from his comedic roots, he underwent an intensive physical transformation—aided by prosthetics and a salt-and-pepper beard—to play Mohammad Aalam, an undercover Indian spy disguised as a juice vendor in Karachi’s Lyari market. His gritty, nuanced performance as the handler for Ranveer Singh’s character was hailed by critics as "unrecognizable" and "career-defining," marking his successful transition into serious, high-stakes cinema. Currently based in Mumbai, Gera continues to balance his digital presence with major film projects; he is set to reprise his role as Aalam in the upcoming sequel, Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge, scheduled for a pan-India release on March 18, 2026.
