Gbenga Akinnagbe is an American actor, writer, and activist, born Olugbenga Enitan Temitope Akinnagbe on December 12, 1978, in Washington, D.C. He is the first in his family to be born in the United States, as his parents are Yoruba Nigerian. He was raised in Silver Spring, Maryland, and attended Bucknell University on a wrestling scholarship, graduating in 2000 with a degree in Political Science and English. Akinnagbe's career break came with his critically acclaimed role as the enforcer Chris Partlow on the HBO series "The Wire" (2004–2008). He has since maintained a robust career across film and television, with notable roles including Pastor Isaiah Easton on "The Good Wife," Nurse Kelly Slater on "Nurse Jackie," CIA Agent Erik Ritter on "24: Live Another Day," Larry Brown on "The Deuce," and Julian Carson on "The Old Man." His extensive film credits include "The Savages," "The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3," "Edge of Darkness," "Detroit," and "The Sun Is Also a Star." A veteran of the stage, Akinnagbe also earned recognition for his Broadway debut as Tom Robinson in Aaron Sorkin's adaptation of "To Kill a Mockingbird." Beyond acting, he is a writer who has contributed articles to The New York Times and is the founder of the socially conscious lifestyle brand Liberated People and the Brooklyn-based furniture business Enitan.
