Gia Carides is an accomplished Australian actress known for her versatile career spanning both Australian and American film and television. Born in Sydney on June 7, 1964, to a Greek father and an English mother, she began acting at the age of 12. Carides achieved early critical recognition in Australia with AFI Award nominations for her work in the films Strictly Ballroom (1992), where she played Liz Holt, and Brilliant Lies (1996).She is perhaps most widely recognized by international audiences for her roles in major American comedies. Her breakout role was as the brash and quotable Cousin Nikki in the hit film My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002), a character she has reprised in the subsequent TV show My Big Fat Greek Life and the film sequels, My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 and My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3. She also played the role of Robin Spitz Swallows (née Spitz) in the successful spy-comedy Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999) and appeared in the political drama Primary Colors (1998). Her career also includes television roles such as Helena Angelopoulos in the Australian series Police Rescue and a recurring role as Melissa in the HBO series Big Little Lies. In 2025, she voiced the character of the Queen of Nightmares in the animated Netflix film In Your Dreams.
