Gilberto Idonea (June 18, 1946 – October 5, 2018) was a distinguished Italian actor and cultural ambassador from Catania, Sicily. Initially pursuing a career in business, he transitioned to acting in the 1980s, dedicating himself to the stage and screen. Idonea was renowned for his versatile performances in both comedic and dramatic roles, often portraying characters with a strong Sicilian identity. He gained international recognition for his role as Avvocato Centorbi in Giuseppe Tornatore’s acclaimed film Malèna (2000) . His filmography includes notable works such as Il consiglio d'Egitto (2002) and Le conseguenze dell'amore (2004) . On television, Idonea appeared in series like La piovra 8 – Lo scandalo (1997) and La piovra 10 (2001), portraying the character of Avvocato Rittone. In the theater, he was celebrated for his interpretations of Sicilian playwrights, particularly Angelo Musco. His one-man show, One Man Show, which paid homage to Musco, was performed in various theaters, including the Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania and venues in the United States . Idonea's contributions to the arts were recognized internationally, and he was appointed as an ambassador of Sicilian culture. He passed away on October 5, 2018, at the age of 72 in his hometown of Catania .
