Gonzalo Tobal is an Argentine filmmaker born in 1981. He has established himself as a notable director and screenwriter in contemporary cinema, known for his work in both short and feature films.Tobal's career gained significant traction with his short films. His short "Now Everybody Seems To Be Happy" (2007) received the First Prize of the Cinéfondation at the Cannes Film Festival, among other accolades. Another short, "Cynthia Still Got the Keys," premiered at the Cannes Critics' Week in 2010.His feature film debut, "Villegas," premiered in the Official Selection of the Cannes Film Festival in 2012 and was also honored as the Best Film by the Argentinian Film Critics Association at the BAFICI festival. He went on to direct "The Accused" (2018), a crime-thriller that premiered at the Venice International Film Festival and received critical acclaim, particularly for its lead performance.More recently, Tobal directed "Juegos de Seducción" (English title: "Follow"), a Mexican drama thriller released in 2025 on Amazon Prime Video. He is also credited as a director for the 2023 TV series "Love After Music." Beyond directing, Gonzalo Tobal has also contributed as a writer and editor on various projects, showcasing his multifaceted talents in filmmaking.
