Graham Greene CM was a highly respected Canadian First Nations (Oneida) actor known for his quiet dignity, powerful presence, and extensive work across film, television, and theatre for over five decades. Born on June 22, 1952, on the Six Nations Reserve in Ohsweken, Ontario, he held various manual jobs, including welding and audio engineering, before deciding to pursue acting. Greene achieved international fame and critical acclaim for his Oscar-nominated performance as Kicking Bird in the 1990 film Dances with Wolves. His subsequent notable film roles include Walter Crow Horse in Thunderheart (1992), Arlen Bitterbuck in The Green Mile (1999), and Tribal Police Chief Ben Shoyo in Wind River (2017). On television, he was recognizable for his roles in series like Northern Exposure, The Red Green Show, and Longmire, and was featured in the 2024 film King Ivory as Holt Lightfeather. A Member of the Order of Canada, Greene was a trailblazer who significantly impacted the representation of Indigenous peoples in media. He passed away on September 1, 2025, at the age of 73.
