Griffin Matthews
Griffin Matthews (born December 25, 1981, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) is an American actor, writer, director, and activist. A graduate of Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Drama with a B.F.A. in Musical Theater, Matthews has built a versatile career spanning stage and screen. On television, he’s best known for roles like Shane Evans in HBO Max’s The Flight Attendant, Luke Jacobson on Disney+’s She‑Hulk: Attorney at Law, Teddy Lockwood on season 5 of You, and guest appearances in series such as Dear White People, The Mentalist, Weeds, Law & Order: LA, Suburgatory, Torchwood, and Numb3rs. In film, Matthews portrayed John Golden in Netflix’s Your Place or Mine (2023) and appeared in indie projects and shorts — including #SCREAMERS and Discovering Ella. On stage, Griffin co‑wrote and starred in the documentary musical Witness Uganda (later retitled Invisible Thread), inspired by his volunteer experience in Uganda and developed with husband Matt Gould. The musical earned two Richard Rodgers Awards (2012 and 2014) and was produced Off‑Broadway by Second Stage. Matthews is also the founder of UgandaProject (originally Be The Change Uganda), a nonprofit established in 2005 to support educational opportunities for teenagers in Uganda . He’s an outspoken advocate against institutional racism in American theater, notably speaking out about his experiences during the Invisible Thread production. Openly gay, Griffin married Matt Gould in 2017, and the couple adopted two sons in August 2022.
