Hera Hilmar
Hera Hilmar, born Hera Hilmarsdóttir on December 27, 1988, is an Icelandic actress who has achieved international recognition for her work in film and television. She hails from an artistic family in Reykjavík, Iceland, being the daughter of film director Hilmar Oddsson and actress Þórey Sigþórsdóttir. Hilmar began her acting career as a child in Icelandic cinema and later trained abroad, graduating from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) in 2011. She rose to international prominence with her role as Vanessa Moschella in the Starz television series Da Vinci's Demons (2013–2015). Her film credits include the major lead role of Hester Shaw in the post-apocalyptic film Mortal Engines (2018), and critically acclaimed Icelandic roles, such as Eik in Life in a Fishbowl (2014), for which she won an Edda Award. Her television work also features the main role of Maghra in the Apple TV+ series See (2019–2022). Most recently, she starred in the 2025 thriller Turbulence as Emmy, a wife whose strained relationship is tested during a disastrous hot-air balloon trip.
