Hiroo Johar

Hiroo Johar is an influential Indian film producer born on March 18, 1943, and is a key figure in the prominent production house Dharma Productions. She is the wife of the late founder Yash Johar and the mother of filmmaker Karan Johar, with whom she runs the company alongside Apoorva Mehta, carrying forward her husband's legacy. She is one of eight siblings, including the well-known Indian filmmakers B.R. Chopra and Yash Chopra. Hiroo Johar married Yash Johar on May 20, 1971. Although she was interested in becoming an air hostess, she was not permitted by her father and instead worked as ground staff for an airline. As a producer, she has been associated with numerous successful films, including Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017), Raazi (2018), Simmba (2018), Bhoot – Part One: The Haunted Ship (2020), Sooryavanshi (2021), Jug Jugg Jeeyo (2022), and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023). Her family has faced hardships, including her selling her maternal house and jewelry after four box office failures by Dharma Productions in the 1980s and 1990s. Karan Johar has publicly shared that she is his "superhero," his "world and galaxy," and that he would never have been able to raise his twins, Yash and Roohi, without her.
