Hope Davis
Hope Davis is a versatile and critically lauded American actress known for her work across film, television, and theater, who has accumulated nominations for three Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, and a Tony Award. Born on March 23, 1964, in Englewood, New Jersey, she grew up with an appreciation for culture, later attending Vassar College where she majored in cognitive science before ultimately pursuing acting. After her film debut in Flatliners (1990) and a small role in Home Alone (1990), Davis gained critical momentum with films like The Daytrippers (1996), and earned widespread recognition and a Golden Globe nomination for her dual roles in About Schmidt (2002) and American Splendor (2003), the latter winning her a New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Actress. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she played the important, though brief, role of Maria Stark, Tony Stark's mother, in Captain America: Civil War (2016). On television, Davis is highly regarded for her work on HBO, earning Emmy nominations for her performances in the drama series "In Treatment" (2009) and for portraying Hillary Clinton in the television film "The Special Relationship" (2010). More recently, she received a third Emmy nomination for her recurring role as the ruthless media magnate Sandi Furness in "Succession" (2021–2023). Her stage career is equally distinguished, featuring a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Play for the original Broadway production of God of Carnage (2009). Her other notable film credits include Infamous (2006), Synecdoche, New York (2008), Real Steel (2011), and Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City (2023). She appeared in Kelly Reichardt's 2025 film, The Mastermind, as Sarah Mooney (J.B.'s mother).
