Hugh Bonneville

Hugh Bonneville is a distinguished English actor, best known for his portrayal of Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham, in the acclaimed ITV historical drama series Downton Abbey (2010–2015), a role that earned him multiple award nominations. He reprised this role in the feature films Downton Abbey (2019) and Downton Abbey: A New Era (2022). Born on November 10, 1963, in Paddington, London, Bonneville was educated at Dulwich College and Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, where he studied theology. He later trained at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art. His early career included performances with the National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company. In addition to his work in Downton Abbey, Bonneville has appeared in various films, including Notting Hill (1999), Iris (2001), The Monuments Men (2014), and Paddington (2014) and its sequel Paddington 2 (2017), where he portrayed Henry Brown, the father of the Brown family. He returned to this role in the upcoming Paddington in Peru (2025), the third installment of the beloved franchise.
