Ice Cube

O'Shea Jackson Sr. (born June 15, 1969), universally known as Ice Cube, is an iconic American figure who has achieved immense success and influence across the realms of music, acting, screenwriting, and producing. Hailing from South Central Los Angeles, he is recognized as a pioneer of gangsta rap, beginning his career in the mid-1980s.Ice Cube first gained widespread prominence as a pivotal member of the highly influential rap group N.W.A (Niggaz Wit Attitudes), which he co-founded with Eazy-E and Dr. Dre. As the group's lead rapper and primary lyricist for much of their seminal 1988 album Straight Outta Compton, he helped define the sound and attitude of West Coast hip-hop, often sparking controversy with politically charged and explicit lyrics that challenged authority. Following a financial dispute, he left N.W.A in 1989 to launch a highly successful solo music career. His debut solo album, AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted (1990), and subsequent albums like Death Certificate (1991) and The Predator (1992), were critically acclaimed and commercially successful, cementing his status as one of hip-hop's most impactful and controversial artists. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of N.W.A in 2016.Beyond music, Ice Cube seamlessly transitioned into a prolific acting career, making his powerful debut in John Singleton's critically lauded 1991 film Boyz n the Hood as Doughboy. This role set the stage for a diverse filmography that includes both gritty dramas and hugely popular comedies. He co-wrote and starred in the cult classic comedy Friday (1995), which spawned a successful franchise. His comedic prowess was further showcased in the Barbershop film series, Are We There Yet?, and the buddy-cop comedies 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street. He also had a notable cameo appearance, reprising his role as Darius Stone from xXx: State of the Union, in xXx: Return of Xander Cage (2017).As a filmmaker, Ice Cube has extended his influence as a screenwriter, producer, and director. He made his directorial debut with The Players Club (1998) and has produced many of the films he's starred in, including the Friday and Barbershop franchises, and the critically acclaimed biopic Straight Outta Compton (2015), which chronicled N.W.A's rise to fame. Ice Cube remains an active and influential figure in entertainment, continuing to release music, take on acting roles, and engage in various entrepreneurial ventures, while also being an outspoken voice on social issues.
