She is the daughter of Scottish folk singer Donovan and American model Enid Karl, but was primarily raised by her mother in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Skye made her film debut in River's Edge (1986), but gained mainstream exposure and enduring recognition as a teen idol for her starring role as the reserved high school valedictorian Diane Court in Cameron Crowe's classic romance film Say Anything... (1989), opposite John Cusack. Her subsequent film credits in the 1990s include Gas Food Lodging (1992), a supporting role in Wayne's World (1992), and Four Rooms (1995), with later appearances in films like Fever Pitch (2005) and Zodiac (2007). In addition to her acting career, Skye is an accomplished painter and the author of the children's book My Yiddish Vacation. In her personal life, she was married to Beastie Boys member Adam Horovitz from 1992 to 1999 and subsequently married Australian musician Ben Lee in 2008, with whom she has a daughter; she also has a daughter from a prior relationship with designer David Netto. She will next be seen in the upcoming film Anaconda (2025).
