Jack Lowden

Jack Andrew Lowden (born June 2, 1990) is a Scottish actor. Born in Chelmsford, Essex, England, he was raised in Oxton, a village in the Scottish Borders, by his parents, Jacquie and Gordon Lowden. His brother, Calum, is a ballet soloist. Lowden attended the Scottish Youth Theatre in Edinburgh from the age of 10 and later performed in pantomimes and high school productions. His ambition to pursue acting professionally was solidified after seeing the play "Black Watch" in 2007. He furthered his training by attending summer classes at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London and graduated with a BA in Acting from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow in 2011.Lowden began his career on stage, notably in a revival of "Black Watch" (2010-2011) and as Eric Liddell in the 2012 play "Chariots of Fire." He garnered significant critical acclaim for his role as Oswald in Richard Eyre's 2013 adaptation of Ibsen's "Ghosts," for which he won both the Ian Charleson Award and a Laurence Olivier Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2014. His breakthrough international screen role came in the 2016 BBC miniseries "War & Peace" as Nikolai Rostov. Following this, he took on diverse roles in film, including a fighter pilot in Christopher Nolan's "Dunkirk" (2017), Morrissey in the biopic "England Is Mine" (2017), and Lord Darnley in "Mary Queen of Scots" (2018), where he co-starred with Saoirse Ronan, whom he married in July 2024. Lowden has continued to build a strong film and television career, starring in projects such as "Calibre" (2018), "Fighting with My Family" (2019), "Benediction" (2021), and the Apple TV+ spy drama "Slow Horses" (2022-present), for which he received an Emmy nomination in 2024. He also has producing credits on films like "Kindred" (2020) and "The Outrun" (2024).
