Jacqueline Novak, born on September 3, 1982, is an American stand-up comedian, actress, writer, and author. Originally from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, her family moved to Chappaqua, New York, when she was two years old. She later attended Georgetown University, where she was part of an improv troupe with fellow comedians John Mulaney and Nick Kroll. After graduating, Novak moved to New York City to pursue comedy, where she gained a following for her unique and often absurd style of humor. She is the author of the memoir How to Weep in Public: Feeble Offerings on Depression from One Who Knows, which was published in 2016.Novak is best known for her critically acclaimed one-woman off-Broadway show, Get on Your Knees. The show, a comedic exploration of sexuality and coming-of-age, was named a New York Times "Critic's Pick" and was nominated for a 2020 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Solo Performance. The show's popularity led to multiple extensions and a national tour. In 2024, Get on Your Knees was released as a Netflix comedy special, directed by Natasha Lyonne, and received a 2024 Emmy nomination for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special. In addition to her stage and writing work, Novak has appeared on numerous television shows, including Late Night with Seth Meyers, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and Broad City, where she also contributed as a writer. She also co-hosts the popular wellness/comedy podcast Poog with fellow comedian Kate Berlant.
