James Lance

James Frederick Grenville Lance is an English actor, born on September 29, 1975, in Southampton, known for his long and varied career across British television, film, and theatre. He trained at the Sylvia Young Theatre School and began his career with roles in cult British comedy series, establishing his reputation as a versatile character actor in shows like I'm Alan Partridge, Spaced, Smack the Pony, Absolutely Fabulous, and The Book Group. His dramatic television work includes roles in Teachers, Being Human, Midsomer Murders, and Black Mirror. Internationally, Lance achieved widespread popularity for his recurring role as the initially cynical, hard-hitting journalist Trent Crimm (of The Independent) in the acclaimed Apple TV+ comedy series Ted Lasso (2020–2023), a performance for which he was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series in 2022. On the big screen, he has appeared in films such as Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette (2006), Bronson (2008), Bel Ami (2012), The Bookshop (2017), and the recent feature The Salt Path (2024).
