Java Sundaresan

Java Sundaresan is an Indian actor and comedian primarily known for his work in Tamil cinema, who was previously known by the stage name Chaams. Born as Swaminathan on November 30, 1972, in Trichy, India, he began his career in 1998 and has appeared in over 230 films, often in supporting and comedic roles. He gained initial recognition through his performances in Crazy Mohan's dramas and then transitioned to film, where he worked alongside prominent comedians like Vadivelu. His breakthrough and most iconic role was as "Java" Sundaresan, an aspiring software engineer, in the 2008 film Arai En 305-il Kadavul. This character became immensely popular among the public and meme creators, leading fans to widely address him by this name instead of Chaams. Following this widespread recognition, the actor officially changed his screen name from Chaams to Java Sundaresan on the auspicious occasion of Vijayadasami in October 2025, after formally taking permission from the character's creator, director Chimbu Devan. His notable performances include leading roles in films like Palaivana Solai (2009) and Onbadhule Guru (2013), and his acclaimed comic role in Payanam (2011).
