Jeremy Allen White is an American actor born on February 17, 1991, in the borough of Brooklyn, New York City, where he was raised in the Carroll Gardens neighborhood. His parents, Eloise Ziegler and Richard White, were former actors. As a child, he initially trained in dance, studying ballet, jazz, and tap, but at age 13, he decided to switch his focus to acting and later attended the Professional Performing Arts School in Manhattan. White began his professional acting career in 2006 with roles in the film Beautiful Ohio and the television series Conviction. His breakthrough came in 2011 with the role of the academically gifted but troubled Phillip "Lip" Gallagher on the Showtime comedy-drama series $Shameless$, a main role he held for all 11 seasons until 2021. Following the conclusion of Shameless, White took on the lead role of tormented chef Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto in the FX series $The Bear$ (2022–present). His performance in The Bear has been met with critical acclaim, earning him multiple major awards, including three consecutive Golden Globe Awards and two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. To prepare for the role of Carmy, White trained at the Institute of Culinary Education and staged in a Michelin-starred restaurant. In film, his recent notable roles include portraying wrestler Kerry Von Erich in the 2023 biographical drama $The Iron Claw$ and portraying Bruce Springsteen in the 2025 biopic $Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere$. White married actress Addison Timlin in 2019, with whom he has two daughters, born in October 2018 and December 2020; Timlin filed for divorce in May 2023.
