John McCrea is a British actor and singer, born on October 10, 1992, in Aldershot, Hampshire, England. He is best known for originating the role of Jamie New in the critically acclaimed musical Everybody's Talking About Jamie, both in its original Sheffield production and the West End run . McCrea began his theatrical journey at the age of nine, performing in productions such as Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the London Palladium. He later trained at the Sylvia Young Theatre School and the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts in London . In 2021, McCrea made his film debut as Artie, the first openly gay character in a live-action Disney film, in Cruella . He also contributed to the film's soundtrack with a cover of The Stooges' "I Wanna Be Your Dog" . On television, McCrea has appeared in series such as Dracula (2020), Giri/Haji (2019), and Pistol (2022), showcasing his versatility across genres. In 2023, McCrea starred in the film Femme, which premiered at the Berlin Film Festival and was later released on Netflix .
