John Robinson

John Robinson (born October 25, 1985) is an American actor and filmmaker who first rose to prominence as the lead in Gus Van Sant’s Palme d'Or-winning drama Elephant (2003). In the 2025/2026 true-crime thriller Dead Man’s Wire, Robinson reunites with Van Sant to play John the Cameraman, a role that places him at the center of the film's media-frenzy themes. His character is part of the news crew documenting the 63-hour hostage standoff, reflecting the film's critique of how the 1977 Indianapolis crisis was transformed into a live television spectacle. Critics have noted that his casting, along with fellow Van Sant alum Kelly Lynch, serves as a "spiritual nod" to the director’s earlier minimalist and raw filmography. A native of Portland, Oregon, Robinson has maintained a diverse career spanning major blockbusters and intimate indie projects. He is widely recognized for portraying legendary skateboarder Stacy Peralta in Lords of Dogtown (2005) and for his role as Miles Lancaster in Michael Bay’s Transformers (2007). In recent years, Robinson has expanded his work into Europe, starring in French productions like Niki (2024) and the series Les Papillons Noirs. He is also a writer and producer, currently developing an adaptation of the comic book The Red Monkey through his own production company.
