Jonica "Jojo" T. Gibbs is an American actress and comedian, born on April 15, 1989, in Gaffney, South Carolina. She was raised in Hampstead, North Carolina by her great-grandparents. After earning a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, she decided to pursue a career in acting and stand-up comedy, moving to Los Angeles in 2015. Gibbs gained significant recognition for her lead role as Hattie in the BET series Twenties, a character that is a broke, queer, aspiring TV writer loosely based on the show's creator, Lena Waithe. She is openly gay and has spoken about the importance of playing masculine-of-center lesbian characters in media. Her filmography also includes roles in Fresh, Something from Tiffany's, Past Lives, Civil War, and the upcoming action film Dirty Angels (2024).
