Jon S. Baird is a Scottish film director, writer, and producer, born in Aberdeenshire on November 9, 1972. He began his career at BBC Television after graduating from the University of Aberdeen with an MA in Politics and International Relations. Baird is known for his work across film and television, often directing projects with strong characters and performances. His filmography includes directing and writing "Cass" (2008) and the acclaimed adaptation of Irvine Welsh's novel "Filth" (2013), which was a critical and box office success. He has also directed the Channel 4 drama "Babylon" (2014) and episodes of HBO's "Vinyl" (2016). In 2018, Baird directed "Stan & Ollie," a biopic about Laurel and Hardy, starring Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly, which earned him a Scottish BAFTA. More recently, he directed "Tetris" (2023), a feature film produced by Matthew Vaughn, and "Stonehouse" (2023), a docudrama about the British MP John Stonehouse. His upcoming film, "Everything's Going to Be Great," is scheduled for release in 2025. Baird has received recognition for his work, including a London Critics Circle Award for breakthrough British filmmaker.
