Jonathan Pryce

Sir Jonathan Pryce is a highly acclaimed Welsh actor with a career spanning over five decades in theatre, film, and television. Born John Price on June 1, 1947, in Holywell, Wales, he trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). He is a two-time Tony Award winner for his stage work, including his Broadway debut in Comedians and for originating the role of The Engineer in the musical Miss Saigon in both the West End and on Broadway.On screen, Pryce is celebrated for his versatility in a wide array of roles. His breakthrough film performance was as the daydreaming clerk Sam Lowry in Terry Gilliam's 1985 dystopian film Brazil. He has since appeared in major franchises and critically acclaimed projects, including playing the Bond villain Elliot Carver in Tomorrow Never Dies, Governor Weatherby Swann in the Pirates of the Caribbean series, the High Sparrow in HBO's Game of Thrones, and Prince Philip in The Crown. For his role as Pope Francis in the 2019 film The Two Popes, he received his first Academy Award nomination. In recognition of his contributions to drama, he was knighted in 2021.
