Jördis Triebel

Jördis Triebel (born October 30, 1977, in East Berlin, Germany) is a distinguished German actress acclaimed for her compelling performances in film, television, and theater. Raised in the Prenzlauer Berg district as the second eldest of four sisters, she was introduced to the world of theater through her mother, who worked as a props mistress at the Theater an der Parkaue. This early exposure sparked her interest in acting. Triebel pursued formal training at the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst "Ernst Busch" in Berlin from 1997 to 2001. Upon graduation, she joined the Bremer Theater ensemble, where she performed in productions such as Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, and The Master Builder. She remained with the theater until 2004. Subsequently, she worked with the Schauspielhaus Zürich and the Cologne Playhouse. Her early television appearance was a guest role in the series Wolffs Revier in 2005. Triebel's breakthrough in film came with the 2006 drama Emmas Glück, where she portrayed Emma, an unconventional pig farmer. Her performance earned her multiple awards and a nomination for the German Film Award. She received another German Film Award nomination for her supporting role as the mother of the titular character in Pope Joan (2009). In 2013, she starred in West, a film about a woman who flees East Germany, for which she was honored as Best Actress at the Montreal World Film Festival. In 2017, Triebel gained international recognition for her role as Katharina Nielsen in the Netflix series Dark, a German science fiction thriller. She also appeared as Dr. Völcker in the acclaimed series Babylon Berlin. In 2022, she portrayed Princess Ludovika in the Netflix series The Empress and appeared in the film In einem Land, das es nicht mehr gibt ("In a Land That No Longer Exists"), for which she received the German Film Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2023. Beyond her acting career, Triebel has contributed to audio productions, including narrating for the popular science magazine 42 – Die Antwort auf fast alles on Arte. Triebel resides in Berlin-Friedrichshain. She has two sons with her former partner, actor Matthias Weidenhöfer, with whom she was in a relationship until 2014.
