Jorge R. Gutierrez is a Mexican animator, painter, writer, director, and voice actor known for his vibrant and culturally rich storytelling. Born in Mexico City and raised in Tijuana, he has a deep-seated passion for Mexican pop and folk culture, which is evident in his distinctive visual style. After graduating from the California Institute of the Arts, Gutierrez co-created the multiple Emmy and Annie Award-winning animated series El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera for Nickelodeon with his wife and artistic collaborator, Sandra Equihua.His career reached a new level of acclaim with the 2014 animated feature film The Book of Life, which he co-wrote and directed. Produced by Guillermo del Toro, the movie earned him a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Animated Feature Film.
