Joseph Marcell
Joseph Marcell is a British actor born in Saint Lucia on August 18, 1948. He moved to the United Kingdom at the age of five and grew up in Peckham, South London. He studied speech and dance at the Central School of Speech and Drama. While he initially pursued a career in electrical engineering, a theatrical event in London called "The World Theatre Season" inspired him to become an actor. He joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1972 and has since had a distinguished career on stage and screen, appearing in numerous Shakespearean productions, including the title roles in King Lear and Othello.He is best known for his role as Geoffrey Butler on the NBC sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, which aired from 1990 to 1996. His other television and film credits include roles in The Bold and the Beautiful, Doctor Who, Cry Freedom, and the 2019 film The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind. He is also a member of the board of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London. He has been married twice and has two children. He currently lives in Banstead, Surrey.
