Josh Pais (born Joshua Atwill Pais on June 21, 1958, in New York City) is an American actor, writer, director, and acting coach, known for his extensive work in film and television with over 150 credits. He is the son of a theoretical physicist father who worked with Albert Einstein and a bohemian poet-painter mother. Pais is perhaps best recognized for playing Raphael in the original 1990 film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, where he was the only actor to both wear the costume and voice the character. His notable film appearances include A Beautiful Mind, Phone Booth, The Station Agent, Scream 3, I Saw the Light, Motherless Brooklyn, and Joker, where he played Hoyt Vaughn. On television, he had a long-running role as Assistant M.E. Borak in the Law & Order franchise and a recurring role as Stu Feldman on Ray Donovan. Pais is also the founder of Committed Impulse, an acting and creative training method. He is the director of the 2002 documentary 7th Street, which won an Audience Award at the Boston Independent Film Festival. Pais was previously married to actress Lisa Emery from 1990 until their divorce in 2003, and they have a son, actor Zane Pais. He later married entrepreneur Marie Forleo in 2006.
