Josiah Black

Born in Thailand and later relocating to British Columbia, Canada, Josiah Black was a versatile actor, writer, and producer who left a significant mark on the independent film scene and major horror cinema. He spent his early childhood in Thailand before moving to Mission, a suburb of Vancouver, where he initially explored his creativity as a singer and guitarist in the rock band Apprehended. After transitioning to acting under the guidance of coach Bart Anderson, Black balanced a career in modeling and stand-up comedy with screen roles, eventually moving to California with his brother to expand his professional reach. His early career included writing, producing, and starring in the 2011 film Unlike Me, as well as appearing in a variety of projects such as the comedy Kindergarten Cop 2 (2016) and the sci-fi thriller 2307: Winter's Dream (2016). Black’s most prominent role came in Jigsaw (2017), where he portrayed Edgar Munsen, a pivotal character whose actions set the film's "present-day" plot in motion. As Munsen, he played a criminal forced by the killer to activate a remote trigger atop a rooftop, leading to a high-stakes confrontation with police that serves as the movie's opening sequence. Tragically, Josiah Black’s life was cut short when he died at the age of 32 on June 15, 2020, following an accidental fall while rock climbing at Spion Kop in Lake Country, British Columbia. He is remembered by the industry and fans for his vibrant energy and his contribution to the Saw legacy, leaving behind a wife and young children at the time of his passing.
