Joyena Sun

Joyena Sun is a New Zealand-based actress of Chinese descent, recognized for her compelling performances in both short and feature films. Born and raised in Auckland, she is currently a student at Marist College. Her acting journey began in 2016 with the short film Wait, which won Best New Zealand Short Film at the New Zealand International Film Festival. She further showcased her talent in the 2018 short film Blood and Gold, portraying the character Shensheng. This role earned her a nomination for the Toi Whakaari Best Actor Award at the 2021 Show Me Shorts Film Festival. In 2024, Joyena took on the lead role of Wei in the feature film Grafted, directed by Sasha Rainbow. The film, a body horror piece exploring themes of identity and beauty standards, premiered at the New Zealand International Film Festival and was later released on Shudder in January 2025. Joyena is represented by Johnson & Laird, a prominent talent agency in New Zealand.
