After studying at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London, she began her professional stage career in 1957 with the Old Vic Company, quickly establishing herself as a leading Shakespearean actress, performing numerous roles with the Royal Shakespeare Company, including Ophelia in "Hamlet" and Lady Macbeth in "Macbeth."While her early career was predominantly in theatre, earning her a record seven Olivier Awards and a Tony Award, Dench achieved widespread international recognition in film and television from the 1980s onwards.
