Judy Reyes is a Dominican-American actress, model, and producer, renowned for her versatile roles in television, film, and theater. Born on November 5, 1967, in the Bronx, New York City, she began her acting career in the early 1990s, making her first major role in the independent film Jack and His Friends in 1992. Reyes is a founding member of the Labyrinth Theater Company in New York City, a multicultural acting space where she has both acted and produced numerous productions. She gained widespread recognition for her portrayal of Nurse Carla Espinosa on the NBC/ABC medical comedy series Scrubs (2001–2009), a role that showcased her comedic timing and depth. Following Scrubs, Reyes starred as Zoila Diaz in the Lifetime comedy-drama Devious Maids (2013–2016) and as Annalise "Quiet Ann" Zayas in the TNT series Claws (2017–2022). Her other notable television appearances include recurring roles in Better Things, One Day at a Time, Search Party, Dirty John, Dr. Death, and Succession. In film, Reyes has appeared in Gun Hill Road (2011), The Circle (2017), All Together Now (2020), Smile (2022), and Birth/Rebirth (2023), the latter earning her an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Lead Performance. In 2024, she took on a lead role in the film Turtles All the Way Down, based on the bestselling novel by John Green. Reyes is also involved in producing, notably executive producing the animated video series LaGolda, which addresses social and environmental issues through the sport of soccer.
