Julian Cheung Chi-lam (張智霖), often affectionately known as Chilam, is a highly popular and versatile Hong Kong singer and actor. Born on August 27, 1971, in North Point, British Hong Kong, he spent part of his youth in Australia, attending Pendle Hill High School in Sydney after his parents' divorce when he was 15. In 1990, during a summer visit to Hong Kong, he was discovered by his first manager and signed with IFPI, launching his music career. He achieved instant fame in 1991 with his debut duet single "A Modern Love Story" with Maple Hui, which became an immense success and still holds the IFPI record for newcomer singers.Cheung's acting career took off swiftly after he signed with TVB in 1991. He gained widespread recognition for his iconic portrayal of Guo Jing in the 1994 TV series adaptation of the wuxia novel The Legend of the Condor Heroes, which significantly boosted his popularity across Asia. Other notable television roles include Chi-Kin in the TVB drama Cold Blood Warm Heart (1996) and Man Chor in Return of the Cuckoo (2000), for which he received multiple TVB awards. His status as a beloved actor was further cemented by his role as Captain Cool in Triumph in the Skies II (2013), earning him numerous accolades.Beyond television, Julian Cheung has built a substantial filmography, appearing in a diverse range of genres. His film credits include A Warrior's Tragedy (1993), The Grandmaster (2013), the Storm film series (S Storm, L Storm, P Storm, G Storm), and more recently, The Prosecutor (2024) where he played Au Pak-man. He is also set to appear in Death Notice: A Serial Killer Leaving Notes (2023) and Modern Dynasty (2022 TV Series). Throughout his career, he has continued to release music, with albums in both Cantonese and Mandarin, and has maintained a strong presence in variety and reality shows. Julian Cheung is married to Hong Kong actress Anita Yuen, and they have a son together, born in 2006.
