Julianne Nicholson
Julianne Nicholson is an American actress known for her quiet intensity and versatility across film, stage, and television, particularly in complex dramatic roles. Born on July 1, 1971, in Medford, Massachusetts, she left Hunter College to pursue acting, quickly establishing herself in New York theater before transitioning to screen work. Nicholson had early notable film roles in The Love Letter (1999) and the critically acclaimed indie drama Tully (2000), which earned her an Independent Spirit Award nomination. Her most significant early television exposure came with main roles in Ally McBeal (2001–2002) and as Detective Megan Wheeler in Law & Order: Criminal Intent (2006–2009). Throughout her career, she has consistently taken on impactful supporting roles in major films, including August: Osage County (2013), Black Mass (2015), and I, Tonya (2017). However, her career reached a new peak with the 2021 HBO limited series Mare of Easttown, where her harrowing performance as Lori Ross, the best friend of Kate Winslet's titular character, earned her the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series. Nicholson's recent work includes playing Gladys Pearl Baker, the troubled mother of Marilyn Monroe, in the 2022 film Blonde, and a recurring role as U.S. Assistant Attorney General Esther Randolph in the HBO series Boardwalk Empire.
